Case Studies
Site Evaluations
The evaluations are an annual requirement to validate earthwork examinations across Network Rail. The task requires a Network Rail engineer to visit each 'Poor' site, record change and write a remit. The original process was paper based relying on the engineer taking notes and photos with a digital camera then writing them up in the office.
Incident Locations
Network Rail responds to many incidents across the network. These includes performance minutes / penalties for train operations. The drainage department wanted to visualise their flooding performance related incidents.
Incident Locations
A number of site base tasks are carried out by people working alone (IWA) The current process requires the employee to call in at the start of the day to give location and direction of travel. They are then required to call / text their contact every 2 hours. The process is flawed as on site person can cover a large distance in 2 hours. If there was an incident it would be very difficult to locate the person on site.
ARM
A mass poured retaining wall had failed in the horizontal position due to overloading and poor construction. The top of the retaining wall was sliding off its base towards an open highway.
Examination
Pole star has been commissioned to make the examination and inspection routine more efficient and easier to use in the railway environment.
