Site Evaluations
Evaluations are an annual requirement to validate earthwork examinations across rail industry. The task requires an engineer to visit each 'Poor' site, record change and write a remit. The original process was paper based relying on the engineer taking notes and photos with a digital camera then writing them up in the office.
Pole Star was introduced to automate this process. The evaluation time was reduced by 50%. The engineer only needed to verify their site data before submitting the final evaluation.
The additional advantage was incident response. On a number of occasions the engineer flagged a severe site to senior management while they were on site. This allowed the manager to see the issue in real time and make a safety decision with all the facts at the time of observation.
