Lone Working
A number of site base tasks are carried out by people working alone (IWA) The current process requires the employee to call in at the start of the day to give location and direction of travel. They are then required to call / text their contact every 2 hours. The process is flawed as site person can cover a large distance in 2 hours. If there was an incident it would be very difficult to locate the person on site.
Pole Star was introduced in the earthworks department to safeguard the employees. The system was set up to pole the location of the employee every 20 mins. The location of all employees was populated on a digital map and made available to the group. This in addition to the current process meant that if there was an incident the person would be located faster.
The additional benefits to this system is around incidents. If an incident occurred you can very quickly locate all your employees.
